Learning Support
Our Learning Consultant team includes three specialists: a full-time learning consultant; a speech-language pathologist; and an occupational therapist. These three specialists assist students who have diagnosed learning differences and support teachers with avenues for differentiation and scaffolding.
Learning Consultant
The learning consultant provides one-on-one and small group support for kindergarten through 6th grade students with various learning needs, and supports teachers in implementing modifications and accommodations within the classroom.
Speech-Language Pathologist
The speech-language pathologist (SLP) supports student success by providing comprehensive speech and language therapy.
Services are available for all students from ages 1.5 through 6th grade, including focused one-on-one and engaging small group sessions. The SLP also utilizes the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework to support students early.
A proactive approach includes parent questionnaires at age 1.5 and formal screenings for all students starting at age 2. The SLP works closely with teachers and parents to address any potential delays or concerns. The goal is to meet each child where they are developmentally and provide the support needed to help them reach their full potential in communication.
Occupational Therapist
The occupational therapist’s role at St. Michael's is to support student participation in school routines while promoting independence. The occupational therapist provides services in the classroom, as well as one-on-one and group therapy for PK-6th grade in the areas of: fine motor, sensory, emotional regulation, executive functioning, gross motor, and handwriting. Fine motor screenings are completed for each new PK-3rd grade student.
