Our new students at school are two colorful parakeets. Their names are not yet known but suggested names have been Romeo, Juliet, Shaggy, Scooby, Sprite, Pepsi, and Barbie, Ken. Next week we will gather a list of name choices and allow the students to vote on their new pets’ names.
So why birds? Our students have been studying birds. Jenny Morrison set up bird feeders outside of the Sverdrup Room and the students have watched as birds have landed and swished to feed. The students have gained knowledge about birds and how to identify birds.
We will keep you posted on our new feathered friends.
Thea is most interested in her new neighbors. We hope she is not dreaming of snacks.

During Writing, kindergartners wrote captions under a picture. First, we talked about what a caption is. Ms. Kara showed us examples of captions in a newspaper and in a magazine. Next, the students drew a picture and wrote a sentence that goes with their picture. The students pretended they were writer’s for a newspaper! Daphne shared her picture and caption with the class.

We did extra practice today on telling time to the hour and half hour. Some may have trouble knowing how to write these in digital form. Maybe practice with your kiddo on seeing a time on the analog clock and writing it in digital form. Example- showing 8:30 on a clock with the minute and hour hands and writing it.
The first graders got a good glimpse at just how far apart ….or close they live to each other. Isaiah was the most popular as we discovered that he is the closest to Ms. Missy:) After a story explaining “towns”, each kiddo found their special town on the St. Louis County Map and circled it. They were to then write a sentence about their town under their maps. Each and everyone is super proud of where they live.
