3-31-10 First Grade Learns About Life in Early Crete

The Minoans lived on Crete, it was an island.  (Thomas)

They jumped over bulls. They were taught how to do this even when they were little and practiced on goats. (Mark)

The king of the Minoans wanted a Navy. (Sean)

He wanted a navy to get rid of the pirates in the sea. (Edie)

He built ships to kill the pirates. (Andrew)

The First Grade built their own Minoan Ships, sailed them and ridded the Mediterranean Sea of the pirates.

3-31-10 Homework: third grade

1.  Math page tonight/ Test on Chapter 8 tomorrow.  The sheet that is for homework tonight has everything that is on the test.

2.  Number the Stars Reading Group:  Please complete questions by tomorrow.  Poster is due next week.

3.  Spelling packet and test tomorrow.

4.  DOL test tomorrow.  Please study the sheets that went home.  Please know that subject/predicate, homophones, syllables, past tense and ABC order will be on the test from the sheets this week.

3.31.10 5th Grade Writes Poetry

For the month of April, the 5th graders will be focused on poetry.  We have begun our study with rhyming poems. Students are learning the different ways to use words and figurative language in their poems. We have even been discussing rhyming patterns.

Each day, the students read and study a new poem. Students answer “I Think…”, “I Feel…” , and “I wonder…” about each poem they read. Students are even beginning to write their own poems. What fun!

On Tuesday, we spend the class period outside writing poetry. Here are a few pictures from class.

3.31.10, Junior Kindergarten, Field Trip

We had a wonderful time on our field trip this morning! We saw lots of patterns and the children were all amazed by the “shiny” tree! We ended our trip by releasing some bottled up energy on Art Hill! :)

Please re-read the poem that is in your notebook. Then, answer the following questions in your notebook.

Do you typically remember your dreams?
Do you dream in color?
Do you have the same dream over and over again? Or similar ones?
Describe one of your dreams that you have recently had.  What do you think it meant? Was it scary? Why do you think you had that particular dream?
Write a poem about the dream you had. It can have any rhyming pattern you want.

3.31.10, Kindergarten Creates Movements

In Kindergarten, the students are creating and drawing various movements with their bodies. A small group of students moved using their legs and arms. The students discussed what a movement is and they also drew their movements. The movements were: hopping, twirling, and a zig zag.

3-31-10 Collaborative Problem Solving and Technology: third grade

Third graders used the Smartboard to demonstrate their understanding of word problems today in math.
