The second graders were certainly surprised this morning after a relaxing break to find our classroom transformed into a Wampanoag village! We now have a wetu in our classroom (thanks to the family architect, Mr. Kumar) and this afternoon the kids got to work on its authenticity. We divided into four groups to work on various jobs, you can see our progress throughout the week. Make sure to stop by and see for yourself this summer style Wampanoag home!
Friday:

Today in Writer’s Workshop the first grade made a list of things they notice in the classroom as well as around the school. Writers were equipped with a clipboard, paper, pencil and lots of excitement as they make mad dashes and added words to their lists. We talked about how writers sometimes write about things that are in the real world. We will be taking this list and expanding it into a story as the week progresses.

Welcome back! All the children seemed very excited to be back at school with their friends! We hope everybody had a wonderful holiday. We got right back into the swing of things today. As a small group the children explored the shadow screen! They noticed the different shadows while dancing and then put transparent shapes onto the projector! They worked together to make different designs on the screen, and then found the different shapes that were projected. A few of the children then made designs on the light table!

1. Reading Log: For the month of December, we will be using the monthly sheet. It will be due on Thursday, December 17th. To receive December’s reward, you must read 360 minutes.
2. Practice Spelling. I am sending home slightly different lists now. There is no sorting. The lists are on a sheet in the folder along with tips for practicing at home.

4. Practice Reader’s Theater. These need to be brought back to school each day for group practice.

Recently the Kindergarten class has been sharing experiences with several Junior Kindergarten students throughout the week. Some kindergartners in return go to the Junior Kindergarten room to engage with the students there. This is an opportunity for mentoring and being mentored hrough shared experiences.

The math students in Ms. Mosher’s and Mr. Herndon’s math classes had a special visitor today. Emma, a 6th grader, introduced her mother, Dr. Stanton, to the class. She is a family doctor and took the students through a real world example of how she uses math on a daily basis to calculate the correct dosages of medicine. The students listened attentively and learned the importance of math to the practice and education of a doctor. THANK YOU DR. STANTON!
