5.14.13, Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten, Daily Journal

Today we tried monkey bites! They were so delicious that they were eating them so fast and we were unable to take pictures. To make monkey bites you mix peanut butter and honey together onto slices of banana. Place them in the freezer and then top with magic shell. Yummy!!
I.W.- They tasted like banana.
B.H.- Banana ice cream!
M.W.- Chocolate and peanut butter!
E.K.- Tasted like ice cream!!
A.T.- All I know is the kids loved them!

5.14.13, Kindergarten: Eric Carle Drawings

The kindergarten students created an animal based on their Eric Carle inspired books. Mr. Chuck and Ms. Kara showed the students a short video of Eric Carle working in his studio. Eric Carle would draw the picture of the animal and then use tissue paper to fill-in. The students first traced their animal on tissue paper or they drew their animal on white paper. The students used glue, scissors, and colorful paper to create their animal.

Henry W: “I am making a snake using paper and glue.”

Blake: “This is a bee from my story. It is The Hungry Bee!”

Grace: “I am making a tiger with orange and black paper.”

Mickey: “This is a dog from my story. I am going to make a caterpillar too.”

5/1/13 JK/K continue to enjoy the nice weather biking.

5/1/13 JK/K continue to show off their biking skills!  We went out to bike while the weather was nice and ended with playing on the playground.  The kids all seem to love biking and are so proud of themselves!

4.25.13, Kindergarten: Writing Workshop

During Writing Workshop, we took a peek at our magnolia flowers and tomato plant. The students noticed that their magnolia seeds have turned into little green stems. Each student wrote a short sentence about their magnolia flower. The students shared the writing materials and helped each other sound out words.

4.25.13 - Nature Drawings

JK and Kindergarten studio groups have been making drawings inspired by the natural environment, amphibians, and growing things.  A nature “still-life” inspired the students to create their work. - Schwall
